Driving Licence
How to Download Driving Licence Online
A digital driving licence is accepted in place of carrying the laminated card, as long as it is the copy issued through DigiLocker or the mParivahan app and the details match the transport record. The practical download is from DigiLocker. Parivahan is the place to check the status or print the record if DigiLocker cannot find it.

Remember
- Official copy
- DigiLocker or mParivahan
- Gallery photo
- Not the same document
- Still missing
- The RTO must correct it
Copy the number exactly
Include the state code. A renewed licence can have a different number from the old card.
What you need before you start
- Driving licence number, copied from the card or from an old receipt
- Date of birth as printed on the licence
- A DigiLocker account, or access to Parivahan and mParivahan
Download it from DigiLocker
This is the cleanest PDF. The transport department pushes the licence as an issued document, so the file is digitally signed.
- 1
Sign in to DigiLocker
Use https://digilocker.meripehchaan.gov.in/signin and the mobile number on your account. Create the account first if you do not have one, then open Issued Documents and pull Driving Licence.
- 2
Pull the driving licence
Open Issued Documents, search for Driving Licence, and pick the transport issuer. Enter the licence number and date of birth exactly as on the card.
- 3
Save the PDF
When the record is found, open it and download the PDF. If you are asked for an OTP, it goes to the mobile on the transport or Aadhaar record, depending on the screen.
If DigiLocker says no record found, compare the licence number character by character, including the state code and the hyphen. An old smart-card number and the number printed on a renewed licence are sometimes different.
Check or print it on Parivahan
Open https://sarathi.parivahan.gov.in/sarathiservice/stateSelection.do, select your state, then Driving Licence, then Print Driving Licence. Enter the licence or application number, date of birth, and the captcha or OTP the page asks for. Save the PDF. There is no single all-India print link that skips the state selection.
Use this path to confirm that the transport database itself has your photo and vehicle classes. If Parivahan has no record, DigiLocker will not have one either. The RTO that issued the licence has to correct the source.
Keep it in mParivahan
mParivahan is the official transport app. Add your driving licence with the same number and date of birth. After it syncs, the app can show the licence and the QR code. This is the version people usually open during a roadside check, because it does not depend on finding a PDF in Downloads.
Add the vehicle registration the same way if you want the RC beside the licence. The RC is a different document and a different download.
Frequently asked questions
How do I download my driving licence PDF?
Sign in to DigiLocker, fetch Driving Licence under Issued Documents, and enter the licence number and date of birth. Download the PDF the issuer returns.
Is the DigiLocker driving licence valid if I am not carrying the card?
The digital licence from DigiLocker or mParivahan is the official electronic copy. Keep the details in sync with Parivahan. A photo of the card saved in your gallery is not the same document.
The licence number is not found. What now?
Recheck the number and date of birth on Parivahan. If the department’s own site has no record, the RTO has to update it. DigiLocker cannot show a licence the transport database does not have.
Can I download a learner’s licence the same way?
A learner’s licence is a different document and is often available only for its short validity on the state Sarathi page. Search Parivahan for the learner-licence print option with the application number from your receipt.
